Review of SIMASV Sheet Metal Bending Machine

Introduction

With the demand for different shapes of bent sheet metal on the market rising, it is of utmost importance to have appropriate sheet metal forming equipment and heavy-duty bending machines specialized for sheet metal.

In this day and age, various forms of sheet metal have made their way into different sectors of the energy industry such as hydroelectric power plants, thermal power plants, wind power, nuclear power plants, etc.

Their role has grown significantly even in the chemical industry sector for the manufacturing of gas pipelines, high-pressure equipment, high-quality reservoir pipes, and even spare parts.

Sheet Metal Bending

Whether it’d be steel or aluminium, to bend those sheets into tubes you need the help of heavy tube bending machines. These machines usually work three or four rollers to twist and bend the sheet into the desired shape.

These days, their operations have evolved from mechanical in the past to mostly electromechanical. But now with the help of technological progress, modern tube bending machines use full electric technology. The emergence of full-electric technology, which sped up the production and made it possible for repeatability of bent parts while at the same time ensuring a minimum margin of error even on high production runs.

How does roll bending work?

Bending rollers usually have three to four rolls which act as the “bender”. A bending roller has a mechanical jig having three or four rollers used to bend sheet metal into a circular arc. The rollers freely rotate along to the parallel axes, which are arranged with uniform horizontal spacing.

There are two types of bending machines;

  1. Three-Roll bending machine

  2. Four-Roll bending machine

Three-Roll bending machine

As the name suggests, this type of rolling machine has three distinct rolls and they are primarily used for rolling metal plates into shapes such as cone, cylinder, and curved shapes.

In this case, once the sheet is rolled into the machine, the plate is placed between upper and lower rolls. With that and the three cutting points of the machine that are exposed to the sheet can make the plate bend into a curved or closed circle. The forming in a three-roll bending machine is regarded as continuous three-point bending of the sheet metal inserted into it.

During the bending process, sheet metal is placed between a single upper roll and two lower rolls. The upper roll brings downward displacement on the sheet and upon rotation, friction is generated between the sheet and the roll.

Lower and upper rolls generate alternate rotations and move the plate back and forth. Along with the downward force from the upper roll, the plate can be bent into a radius no less than the radius of the upper roller.

Four-Roll bending machine

In this case, our four-roll bending machine has four rolls. The alignment and positioning of each roll in relation to one another have an important part in making sure that every plate whether it’d be steel or aluminum can be bent into an evenly round shape.

Out of the four rolls positioned inside the machine, two of the rolls are stationary which means their height cannot be adjusted. Between these roles, two more rolls are mounted, which can be adjusted in height in relation to the side rolls.

In the basic setting, three lower rolls remain at the same height. Between the middle roll, there is a narrow gap through which the plate metal is passed for bending. An unbent sheet of metal can be passed through the rolls once the setting changes. Once the unbent sheet is inside the machine, you would have to enter (program) the kind of material that you put in, the thickness of the sheet, and the bending radius. Operators must be careful while they do this, as pressure and weight applied on the sheet differs depending upon the type of material used and the thickness of the said material.

Once you’re done with programming the machine, the CNC sheet metal bending machine will then adjust to roll bending by positioning middle rolls downwards in relation to the side rolls. Lower these shafts are set, further, the material is pushed between the other two rolls and the smaller the bending radius will get.
